Frequently Asked Questions

Is Thred free?

Yes. Thred is completely free and open source. The codebase is available on GitHub.

Do I need an account?

No. Thred is local-first — no backend, no cloud service, no Thred account. You log into each AI service directly within the app.

Is my data safe?

Yes. All your data — prompts, notes, bookmarks, screenshots, and settings — is stored locally on your machine. Each AI runs in an isolated, sandboxed webview. Thred never collects or transmits your personal data.

Which operating systems are supported?

How do I switch between AI models?

Press Alt+1 through Alt+9, or click the AI icon in the left sidebar.

How do I save prompts and responses?

Select text in any AI chat and press Ctrl+S to save to Vault. Or open Vault (Ctrl+L) and click "New" to create items manually.

How do I capture screenshots?

Where is my data stored?

In a folder you choose during setup. You can view or change the location in Settings > System > Data Location.

How do I report a bug?

Press Ctrl+Shift+I, or go to Settings > About > Report Bug. Describe the issue and submit.
