Getting Started with Thred

Every AI. One workspace.

Thred is a desktop app that brings 9 AI models together with productivity tools, a vault, bookmarks, and more.

Download & Install

  1. Download the latest .exe installer from the Releases page
  2. Run the installer
  3. If Windows SmartScreen shows a warning, click "More info" → "Run anyway"

First Launch

  1. Choose your storage folder — Thred will ask where to store your data (prompts, notes, screenshots, settings). Default: Documents/Thred

  2. Enter your name — Used to personalize greetings on the home screen

  3. See your AI lineup — All 9 AI models are shown with their keyboard shortcuts

  4. Learn the workspace — Quick intro to the right sidebar tools, vault, and command palette

Your First AI Chat

  1. Click any AI icon in the left sidebar (or press Alt+1 for ChatGPT)
  2. Log into the AI service directly — Thred doesn't manage your accounts
  3. Start chatting as you normally would

Saving Things to Vault

Save a prompt or response:

  1. Select text in any AI chat
  2. Press Ctrl+S
  3. Choose the type (prompt, response, or code) and give it a title
  4. Click Save

Access your saved items:

  • Press Ctrl+L to open Vault
  • Browse by tab: Prompts, Responses, Codebook, Notebook, Screenshots, Whiteboards

Customizing Thred

Disable AI models you don't use:

  • Go to Settings (Ctrl+,) → AI Models
  • Toggle off any AI — it will be greyed out and its webview closed to save memory

Change your name:

  • Go to Settings → System → Display Name → Change

Change data location:

  • Go to Settings → System → Data Location → Change
